Camera

A self portrait is a question.  I look in the mirror or towards the camera and I ask.  Many years ago I apparently had a lot of questions.  And I had a Polaroid camera.  And a sense of humor.  Hence eventually this book of self portraits.

Years after I first made the images, I was able to scan them and print them on a high gloss paper so they look quite like the Polaroids.  I had peeled the white border off many of the originals so I had to restore the border on the scanned images via photoshop.  I made the book of scanned images in an edition of five.

The photographs are sequenced into two groups:  In the first I’m holding the camera toward me to take the picture.  In the second group I use a mirror and often allow the camera to be part of the image.

I also made a book using the original polaroids.  Unlike the scanned prints, which are mounted directly on the book page, I cut windows so the book page would serve as a frame for the unbordered polaroid.
